Download Page
On this page you will find help files and demos for our products. Unlike the full product we do not ship a version of Btrieve with the demos.
So you will need to have a version of Btrieve or Pervasive SQL installed to use the demos. If you are trying to connect to a 16 bit version of Btrieve or
an old version of Netware Btrieve then you may also need to install the 32 Bit power Pack. Do not install the Power Pack if you are connecting to
32 Bit versions of Btrieve or Pervasive SQL.
Developers Toolkit for Btrieve and Pervasive SQL
The Developers Toolkit consists of the Data Control for Btrieve Enterprise, Data Manager for Btrieve and Pervasive SQL Standard and the
32 Bit Power Pack. Demos and help files for each of these elements can be downloaded from this page. See below.
Data Manager for Btrieve and Pervasive SQL
Data Manager Enterprise Demo
Consult the quickstart.txt file for getting started information. See the
readme and help file for more in depth information on the features of the product.
The Help is context sensitive, so just press F1 on any screen for more detailed help.
Scroll down for download links for the Special demos for Peachtree and Lytec 2005.
The product is is broken into standard and enterprise features.
Note: It is time limited and crippled in several respects.
-
It is set in browse mode. You cannot create new DDF files or edit data files. You can edit DDF files within the program
and view the results via the Data tab. You just cannot save the results. You can also open data files as a data
file and see it generate a starting DDF for you. And you can view your data in Hex, Alphanumeric, BCD, etc.
-
It also exports only the first 10 records from a file. It supports all of the file and database formats. You can export
from the main part of the program and/or from the export configuration Management screen. You can also export via the command line and
the included ActiveX control. You can set filters, indexes, etc.
It works exactly the same as the full version except it only will export the first 10 records.
-
The Demo is good for only 3 days. The demo is a means of evaluating our software. It is not meant to be a means to
complete projects.
Steps required for downloading the trial software
-
Step 1 - Download the software to your computer.
Download Data Manager demo. (9MB)
-
Step 2 - Unzip the files into a directory.
-
Step 3 - Run the install.
-
Step 4 - When you first run the program you will be requested to provide a temporary user id and key.
To obtain a temporary user id and key send an email to:
Provide your name or your organizations name on the subject line. Provide your name, company name, address in the body. Your user name and key will be replied back to you. When prompted enter in the obtained user id and key.
-
Step 5 - Send questions about the demo to:
Data Manager for Peachtree Edition Demo: We also have a demo for the Data Manager for Peachtree Edition. This version supports Modification to the Preachtree Data Files.
Insert, Edit and Importing data into Peachtree data files is a snap for this version.
Download Data Manager for Peachtree demo. (9MB)
Data Manager for Lytec 2005 Edition Demo: We also have a demo for the Data Manager for Lytec Edition. This version fully supports Lytec 2005 and previous versions of Lytec.
Insert, Edit, exporting and importing data into Lytec 2005 data files is a snap for this version.
Download Data Manager for Lytec 2005 demo. (9MB)
Potential Errors:
See the quickstart.txt file.
Error 20 and 3104. We ship a version of the Btrieve microkernal engine with the software. The Data Manager will look on your system for the most recent version of the Btrieve or pervasive engine.
It is possible for it to find a version but for that version to have an incomplete configuration. In this case errors will be retuned back that indicate that it cannot connect to an engine.
Contact: when you encounter these errors.
The other common error is error 2 or error 30. This happens when either the files
is not a Btrieve file or it is a Btrieve file and you have a versioning issue. See the readme on how to handle this.
Search for the error codes within the readme for the solutions. You can also send questions to support as above.
msdart32.dll installation error: If you encounter an error indicating that you do not have msdart32.dll then you need to apply a windows patch for the data access components.
You need the mdac_typ.exe file. You can either downlowd this file from Microsoft or apply the full install.
If you choose to download this separately then you need version 2.5 or later. You can download this file
from www.microsoft.com.
Just search for mdac 2.6 or mdac_typ.exe. Below are links for some of the Microsoft Data Access serrvice packs.
Download mdac_typ.exe service pack 3.
Download mdac_typ.exe service pack 2.
After installing this file or the full install you may still get an error. This is very rare and typically happens on XP.
In this case you will have to install the msdart32.dll separately into the windows\system or windows\system32 directory.
Download msdart32.dll.
classic.ini: One file that we have added into the demo is the classic.ini file. This is not a required file. But it can be used to force the
Data Manager to use a particular version of Btrieve or Pervasive SQL even in the case when there are multiple
versions of Btrieve and/or Pervasive SQL installed. See the readme for details on how to use it. If you have more than one version of Btrieve
or Pervasive SQL installed then you can use the classic.ini file to force it to use version 6. See below.
Download the classic.ini file.
By default the Data Manager uses the Microsoft Jet 4.0 engine for Microsoft Access (.mdb) database files. If you want Microsoft Access 97 compatibility you need
to set the jet engine option to 3.51 in the data manager. Jet is distributed as part of the latest Windows OS and in service packs. However, if you computer does not have jet then
you will also need to get this service pack. You can download the latest patches for Jet from Microsoft.
Download Jet engine 3.51 service pack 3.
Download Jet engine 4.0 service pack 7.
Data Manager help file
This is the context sensitive help file for the Data Manager for Btrieve and Pervasive SQL Standard,
Enterprise and special build Editions. All products share the same help file. This is because the Enterprise version contains
all of the standard edition features. The Enterprise features are documented separately within the help file. The help file
provides a detailed overview of the capabilities of this product. The special builds are identical to the Enterprise version with added in
support for special security and other requirements of the applications they support. These are transparent to the user and can be
enabled and disabled via the "Target Application" option of the special builds.
Data Control for Btrieve Enterprise Edition Demo Control
32 bit demonstration version of the Classic Data Control for
Btrieve Enterprise Edition, readme and associated help file. The Data Control is sold and licensed as a product on its own as well as part of the
Developers Toolkit and Developers Toolkit for Peachtree. To use it with all versions of Peachtree or Lytec 2005 files you only need to set
a single property. The Data Control Enterprise will then take care of handling all of the special security requirements of these products.
The Data Control requires the most minimal Btrieve or Pervasive SQL configuration possible.
It only needs to use the minimal Microkernal database configuration. But it has to have a valid
Microkernal configuration. We do ship a version of the Microkernal with the full product. But not with the demo.
If you need this then download a demo of the Data Manager and get it from there. when you first use the demo version of
the control it will prompt you for a user name and key. Send a request for a user name and key
to:
The user name and key are good for 30 days.
Many of the new features of the Data Control are documented in the readme
and not the help file. So for the new features of Peachtree, Lytec, DacEasy, new Pervasive SQL 8
security support, built in import/export capability, etc. See the readme first.
Requires one of the following:
Btrieve for Windows 95\NT workstation or NT Server, Netware Btrieve, Pervasive SQL or the
32 Bit Power Pack for Btrieve and either an older Netware server and/or 16 bit Btrieve.
It will work with any valid configuration of Btrieve, Netware Btrieve or Pervasive SQL.
Download and use pkunzip to unarchive file. Run the install. If you get a Btrieve error 20 then one or more
Btrieve, Netware Btrieve or Pervasive SQL components are missing. See enclosed readme.txt and readme.doc
files for instructions on how to get started using the demo control.
Note: The Data Control for Btrieve can use the 32 Bit Power Pack
for Btrieve. If you only have 16 bit Btrieve or an older Netware Btrieve
download and install the 32 Bit Power Pack for Btrieve Demo before using the control.
This works on all versions of 32 bit Windows (XP, 2000, NT, 98, and 95).
Download
the demo control.
32 Bit Power Pack for Btrieve
Demo version of the 32 Bit Power Pack for Btrieve.
Requires Btrieve for Windows 16 bit or connection to a Netware Btrieve server. The required file
is wbtrcall.dll. A version of this comes with most versions of netware. A complete version of the
16 Bit worstation engines v5.x and 6.15 come with the
DDF Maker software that is included with the full product. Any errors typically occur because of a nonexistant or
incomplete Btrieve configuration. Lots of Netware Btrieve configuration information can be found at the Novell web site http://www.novell.com.
Simply search on the Btrieve keyword. The readme for our power pack demo also contains configuration information.
Download and use pkunzip to unarchive the file. Run the install and see the enclosed comp.htm and
readme.txt file for instructions on how to get started using the demo.
The demo is crippled in the number of records allowed in a file and puts up a nag screen when the libraries are first loaded.
Download
demo.
Btrv++ Class Library help file
It is very difficult to demonstrate a library via a demo. So
instead you can download a Windows help file containing
documentation on the classes contained in the library.
Download
Help file.
